Associated Press

The Associated Press is the essential global news network, delivering accurate, insightful news from every corner of the world, 24 hours a day. Since its founding in 1846, AP has been the first to report many of history’s most important moments, and every day, AP journalists, photographers and videographers file news from the front lines of the world's biggest stories.

AP’s reporting, photography, audio and video are published and broadcast by the world’s leading newspapers, TV channels, apps, radio stations, websites and magazines—in fact, over half the world’s population sees AP news content on any given day.

As a leader in the field of journalism, AP fights for freedom of the press and the public’s right to know. Its reporters take great risks to file in-depth stories from countries where the press is otherwise restrained, and in the U.S., AP aggressively uses the Freedom of Information Act to advocate for transparency and accountability in government.

With more experience reporting and delivering news than any other agency, a well-earned reputation for independence and accuracy, and a fierce commitment to the people’s right to know, AP is the definitive source for trusted news.

Reds' Hamilton Sets Sights High

CINCINNATI (AP) - Billy Hamilton set a Reds rookie record by stealing 56 bases, tied for second-most overall in the major leagues last season. He also wore down as the months wore on, with his hitting and stealing taking a big dive.
So his major goal this offseason is to get stronger.
Hamilton has been lifting weights and working with a Reds coach on his bunting and his stealing techniques in the offseason. He got caught stealing 23 times last season, an unacceptably high number.
Manager Bryan Price says Hamilton will be paying more attention to picking his spots to steal this season. He's also hoping that his leadoff hitter can be better for a full season the second time around.

Buckeyes Nip Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) - Freshman D'Angelo Russell scored a career-high 33 points, and Ohio State overcame an early deficit to beat Northwestern 69-67 in the Big Ten on Thursday.
Russell's 3-pointer with 3:34 to play snapped a 60-all tie, which answered the 3-pointer of Northwestern's JerShon Cobb that created the deadlock. Russell's sixth 3-pointer of the night made it 66-60 with 1:36 to play.
Northwestern's Tre Demps hit a 3-pointer to pull the Wildcats within a point with 1.8 seconds to play, but Russell's free throw in the final second sealed the outcome.
Ohio State (14-5, 3-3) used a 16-7 run early in the second half to expand its lead to 11 points. A pair of 3-pointers from Russell, plus a jam from Sam Thompson (11 points), helped them pull away. Russell also pulled down seven rebounds and had six assists.
Alex Olah led Northwestern (10-8, 1-4) with 16 points. Demps added 14 and Bryant McIntosh had 12.

Longtime Nebraska Coach Joining YSU Staff

UNDATED (AP) - Longtime Nebraska assistant football coach Ron Brown is joining Bo Pelini's staff at Youngstown State as associate head coach and running backs coach.
Brown said Thursday he wanted to stay at Nebraska but never was in line for a job on new coach Mike Riley's staff.
Brown has attracted national attention for using his position as a platform for expressing his Christian faith. He was lauded in 2011 for leading a prayer at midfield at Penn State after the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal broke. He was also criticized in 2012 for testifying to the Omaha City Council against an ordinance to protect gay and transgender people from discrimination.
Brown came to Nebraska in 1987 when Tom Osborne hired him to coach wide receivers.
