CAMBRIDGE, Ohio -- The Cambridge City Council Finance, Legislative and City Services committees met in regular session last night.
Finance approved several, year-end, transfers and appropriations to cover some shortfalls in this year's budget, including an $86,000 request by the city auditor. The funds will be transferred from the unappropriated general fund to cover the salary for a new employee in the City's cemetery and parks department, and the fourth quarter installment of the Fire Fund share of the safety tax, among other needs. Various year-end adjustments were also made in the budgets of the Mayor's Office, the Utilities Office, Code Enforcement Department, Municipal Court and Economic & Community Development Department. The Fire Department was also given permission to apply for a Federal Assistance to Firefighters Grant to buy a new ladder truck for CFD. The truck will cost approximately $1 million dollars. If the grant is approved, the city will only have to provide a 5 percent match to purchase the truck.
The Legislative Committee met an approved a trex liquor permit for the Harley Company to allow for the sale of wine at the new Locals North End Market. The new business also has a permit to sell beer, but will be forced to place a referendum on the May ballot to allow for the sale of any kind of liquor. The new market is located in a dry precinct. Discussion on a moratorium on alley vacations was tabled until the next committee meetings in two weeks time.
City Services met as well and approved a request by the Secret Santa organization to solicit funds in a "fill the boot" campaign at the intersection of Wheeling Avenue and Southgate Parkway over the next few weeks. Secret Santa is now working with the Guernsey County Firemen's Association, who will assist in the campaign. Events will take place on Friday, November 29th, Saturday, December 7th and Saturday, December 14th from 10 a.m to 2 p.m.. Over 2,000 children in 800 families in the county received a little "Christmas Magic" from Secret Santa last year.
