Associated Press

The Associated Press is the essential global news network, delivering accurate, insightful news from every corner of the world, 24 hours a day. Since its founding in 1846, AP has been the first to report many of history’s most important moments, and every day, AP journalists, photographers and videographers file news from the front lines of the world's biggest stories.

AP’s reporting, photography, audio and video are published and broadcast by the world’s leading newspapers, TV channels, apps, radio stations, websites and magazines—in fact, over half the world’s population sees AP news content on any given day.

As a leader in the field of journalism, AP fights for freedom of the press and the public’s right to know. Its reporters take great risks to file in-depth stories from countries where the press is otherwise restrained, and in the U.S., AP aggressively uses the Freedom of Information Act to advocate for transparency and accountability in government.

With more experience reporting and delivering news than any other agency, a well-earned reputation for independence and accuracy, and a fierce commitment to the people’s right to know, AP is the definitive source for trusted news.

Procter and Gamble Gets Green

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The Procter & Gamble Co. has updated its policy on palm oil following high-profile protests by Greenpeace at its Cincinnati headquarters.

The world's largest consumer products company said Tuesday that it has adopted a "no-deforestation" policy for its palm oil products. That includes working with those in its supply chain to ensure that by 2020 its products do not contribute to deforestation.

The moves came after weeks of pressure from Greenpeace, which unfurled huge banners from the company's corporate offices last month. Police arrested the activists on burglary and vandalism charges.

Greenpeace says Tuesday's announcement is a huge step toward protecting Indonesia's rainforests and the communities that depend on them.

Athens County Tabs Interim Sheriff

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) - Democratic Party officials have named a retired lieutenant as interim sheriff in a southeast Ohio county where the elected sheriff is facing corruption charges.

The Athens County Democratic Party Central Committee on Tuesday named Rodney Smith as the interim sheriff to serve in place of Sheriff Patrick Kelly, who was suspended by the state after his indictment in the corruption case.

Smith already had been directed by county commissioners to run the office temporarily, but the local party committee was required to name an interim.

The charges against Kelly include theft in office, tampering with records and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity. Kelly is suspected of improperly using public funds to buy meals and apparel, among other allegations.

Kelly has denied wrongdoing and vowed to fight the charges.
