    On Saturday, September 20th, 2014 the Belmont Soil & Water Conservation District will hold a Captina Creek 5K and Family Day  on Saturday, Sept. 20, starting at 9 am at Barkcamp State Park. Runners and walkers will enjoy the scenic trails and compete for exciting prizes. Non-runners and family members will have an opportunity to learn about natural resource conservation by visiting several exhibitors with informational and interactive displays. These exhibitors include businesses, nonprofit organizations, and agencies from all around the state and the Ohio Valley region. Proceeds generated from runner registration fees will benefit watershed and conservation educational programs for Belmont County youth.

    Runners and walkers must be present by 8:45 AM on race day. The race starts at 9:00 AM and the Family Day activities will be held from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Barkcamp State Park is located at 65330 Barkcamp Park Road, Belmont, OH 43718.Pre-registration cost is $15 before September 6th and $20 after September 6th and on race day. A race t-shirt, runner packet, and light refreshments will be provided for runners and walkers. Registration forms are available at the Belmont SWCD office or on our website: www.belmontswcd.org.     The Outside is IN! tackles ODNR's Passport to Fishing for this months program Sept. 21 at 5 pm at the Deerassic Park Education Center.  Join us for this certified course on fishing education. Participants will learn about habitat, handling, casting, local information and knots. If time and weather permits we will fish after the class.

    Olney Friends School Open House at the Stillwater Science Center, located at 998 Shamrock Drive (the former Barnesville Independent Elementary School), following  the annual Giant Pumpkin Parade on Saturday, Sept. 27, and again on Sunday, Sept. 28.  The open house begins at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27. That evening’s activities will include a performance by longtime local Magician Michael Strough at 5 p.m. The event will conclude at 6 p.m., when guests will have the opportunity to also tour Olney’s Main building and campus.The Science Center doors open again at noon on Sunday, Sept. 28. A variety of activities, displays and sale items will be available until 2 p.m., when another tour of other parts of campus will be offered.

    Dave Adair is coming back to the Olde Main Street Museum in Newcomerstown with his “Travling Along the Towpath” presentation on the Ohio & Erie Canal! The show will include Newcomerstown Historical Society’s living historians, who will be playing the roles of those who worked and traveled along the canal.This event takes place on Saturday, September 27th with doors opening at 5:30 and at 6:00 the show begins. Tickets are $5 and include snacks. You can get tickets in advance by calling 740-498-7735 or at the doors the  evening of the performance. The Olde Main Street Museum is located at 213 W Canal Street in Newcomerstown.
