Associated Press

The Associated Press is the essential global news network, delivering accurate, insightful news from every corner of the world, 24 hours a day. Since its founding in 1846, AP has been the first to report many of history’s most important moments, and every day, AP journalists, photographers and videographers file news from the front lines of the world's biggest stories.

AP’s reporting, photography, audio and video are published and broadcast by the world’s leading newspapers, TV channels, apps, radio stations, websites and magazines—in fact, over half the world’s population sees AP news content on any given day.

As a leader in the field of journalism, AP fights for freedom of the press and the public’s right to know. Its reporters take great risks to file in-depth stories from countries where the press is otherwise restrained, and in the U.S., AP aggressively uses the Freedom of Information Act to advocate for transparency and accountability in government.

With more experience reporting and delivering news than any other agency, a well-earned reputation for independence and accuracy, and a fierce commitment to the people’s right to know, AP is the definitive source for trusted news.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Friends of fired Ohio State University marching band director Jonathan Waters have established a legal assistance fund to help him tell his side of the story.

The university fired Waters last week after a two-month investigation concluded he knew about, but failed to stop, a "sexualized culture" of rituals that included students being pressured to march in their underwear and to perform sexually themed stunts that yielded often-explicit nicknames.

Waters led the band since 2012 and created halftime shows considered revolutionary and which drew millions of views on YouTube.

Attorney David Axelrod says donations to the Marching for Waters Fund will help defray costs of "articulating Jon's record of achievements at OSU and defending his reputation." Waters has not filed a lawsuit.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The Democratic candidate for Ohio governor has released a statement from members of an Irish delegation calling a situation with a female delegate and the candidate an `innocuous incident.'

The statement from the campaign of Ed FitzGerald says FitzGerald was driving delegate Joanne Grehan back to her hotel in 2012 at the delegation's request when they got separated from others and stopped to map the route.

Grehan and another delegate call the controversy politically motivated and say there's no basis for unfounded speculation and innuendo.

FitzGerald released the delegates' statement just hours after a northeastern Ohio news organization published details of 2012 police records about FitzGerald and the woman in a vacant parking lot in suburban Cleveland at about 4:30 a.m.
