Associated Press

The Associated Press is the essential global news network, delivering accurate, insightful news from every corner of the world, 24 hours a day. Since its founding in 1846, AP has been the first to report many of history’s most important moments, and every day, AP journalists, photographers and videographers file news from the front lines of the world's biggest stories.

AP’s reporting, photography, audio and video are published and broadcast by the world’s leading newspapers, TV channels, apps, radio stations, websites and magazines—in fact, over half the world’s population sees AP news content on any given day.

As a leader in the field of journalism, AP fights for freedom of the press and the public’s right to know. Its reporters take great risks to file in-depth stories from countries where the press is otherwise restrained, and in the U.S., AP aggressively uses the Freedom of Information Act to advocate for transparency and accountability in government.

With more experience reporting and delivering news than any other agency, a well-earned reputation for independence and accuracy, and a fierce commitment to the people’s right to know, AP is the definitive source for trusted news.

Miller a Surprise Start

CLEVELAND (AP) - Cavaliers veteran swingman Mike Miller was a surprise starter for Game 1 against Chicago.

With Cleveland missing starters Kevin Love and J.R. Smith, Cavs coach David Blatt decided to go with Miller, who made 15 regular-season starts. The 15-year veteran's addition to the lineup was mildly shocking since Blatt also had James Jones and Shawn Marion as options.

Miller has plenty of playoff experience with Orlando, Memphis and Miami. He has averaged 5.4 points in 85 postseason games.

In his first start this season, Miller made seven 3-pointers in a win over Brooklyn.

Love is out for the remainder of the season after undergoing shoulder surgery. He was injured in Cleveland's series-clinching win over Boston. Smith is suspended from the first two games of the Eastern Conference semifinals for striking Celtics guard Jae Crowder in the face.

Iman Shumpert started in Smith's "off guard" spot.

LBJ Breaks Personal Rule

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio (AP) - LeBron James has lifted his personal media boycott to congratulate good friend Chris Paul.

Cleveland's star doesn't use his cellphone during the postseason. He avoids social media and watches NBA games with the sound muted. He changed his policy Saturday when Paul hit a game-winning layup in the final seconds of Game 7 to send the Los Angeles Clippers past defending champion San Antonio.

James says he grabbed his wife's phone and called Paul. James says he told Paul "how amazing he was and how great he was and I hung up on him, I haven't spoken to him since."

The Cavaliers open their Eastern Conference semifinal Monday against Chicago. It's Cleveland's first game in eight days, and James says he did everything he could to pass the time.

Bengals Tackles Left in Limbo

CINCINNATI (AP) - Team captain Andrew Whitworth would like to know where he stands in the Bengals' plans.

The offensive tackle was taken by surprise - just like everyone else - when Cincinnati drafted players at his position with its first two picks last week. Whitworth is entering the final year on his deal and has tried to get some insight from the team about its intentions.

   So far, he's heard nothing.

Whitworth says the uncertainty over his status makes it much more difficult to fill the role of team leader.

Right tackle Andre Smith also is wondering about his future after Cincinnati took Cedric Ogbuehi (oh-BWAY'-hee) in the first round and Jake Fisher in the second. Ogbuehi is still recovering from knee surgery.
