Associated Press

The Associated Press is the essential global news network, delivering accurate, insightful news from every corner of the world, 24 hours a day. Since its founding in 1846, AP has been the first to report many of history’s most important moments, and every day, AP journalists, photographers and videographers file news from the front lines of the world's biggest stories.

AP’s reporting, photography, audio and video are published and broadcast by the world’s leading newspapers, TV channels, apps, radio stations, websites and magazines—in fact, over half the world’s population sees AP news content on any given day.

As a leader in the field of journalism, AP fights for freedom of the press and the public’s right to know. Its reporters take great risks to file in-depth stories from countries where the press is otherwise restrained, and in the U.S., AP aggressively uses the Freedom of Information Act to advocate for transparency and accountability in government.

With more experience reporting and delivering news than any other agency, a well-earned reputation for independence and accuracy, and a fierce commitment to the people’s right to know, AP is the definitive source for trusted news.

Cincy Snaps Skid

CINCINNATI (AP) - Skip Schumaker hit a game-winning double in the ninth inning, and the Cincinnati Reds ended a nine-game losing streak - their longest in 17 years - with a 2-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night.

Players piled out of their dugout for a wild celebration near second base after Schumaker's pinch hit ended the Reds' longest slump since they dropped 11 in a row under manager Jack McKeon in 1998.

Cincinnati had the second-longest losing streak in the majors this season, trailing Colorado's 11-game slide from April 28 to May 13.

Brooks Brown (0-2) walked Marlon Byrd opening the ninth. Kristopher Negron's sacrificed, and Schumaker hit an opposite-field liner that landed just inside the left-field foul line. Jay Bruce led the charge of Reds players onto the field, and injured pitcher Johnny Cueto poured a bottle of water of Schumaker's head.

Cueto Not Seriously Injured

CINCINNATI (AP) - Cincinnati Reds starter Johnny will miss at least one more start after an MRI found inflammation in his pitching elbow.

Results on Tuesday showed no major damage in the right elbow. Cueto, who won 20 games last season, had to skip a scheduled start over the weekend because of stiffness.

Manager Bryan Price says Cueto will throw in the next few days and see how the elbow feels. If the stiffness is gone, he will have a bullpen session. The Reds would then consider when to let him start again.

Streaking Rangers Upend Tribe

CLEVELAND (AP) - Mitch Moreland hit a tiebreaking homer in the eighth inning, and the Texas Rangers beat the Cleveland Indians 4-3 on Tuesday night for their seventh consecutive victory.

Prince Fielder also connected for a three-run shot as the Rangers (23-23) got back to .500 for the first time since the sixth game of the season. Fielder is batting .583 (14 for 24) with five homers and 15 RBIs in his last five games.

Moreland's fifth homer came on a 2-0 pitch from Nick Hagadone (0-1) with one out.

Josh Hamilton, playing his second game of the season for Texas, was hitless in four at-bats and is 0 for 7 in his return to the Rangers.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A resolution urging baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred to reinstate former Cincinnati Reds star Pete Rose and make him eligible for the Hall of Fame has had its first hearing in the Ohio Legislature.

The Senate State & Local Government Committee heard sponsor testimony on the measure Tuesday.

Rose agreed to a lifetime ban in 1989 after a Major League Baseball investigation concluded he bet on Reds' games while managing the team. He has applied for reinstatement, but Manfred has not given a timetable for a decision.

Rose is the game's all-time hits leader. He will have a role in events surrounding the All-Star game this summer in Cincinnati, but the extent is still to be determined by Major League Baseball and the Reds.
