110th Annual Ohio Hills Folk Festival to be held July 9-12 Quaker City

CAMBRIDGE, OHIO (July 2, 2014) – Guernsey County, Ohio will be  celebrating 110 years of Southeastern Ohio culture at the Ohio Hills Folk Festival July 9-12. This annual event is held in the small town of Quaker City and has various activities for the entire family including several unique parades, a tractor show, quilt show and fireworks. History comes to life when you visit the farm museum, country store, the Milk House and the Quaker Meeting House during the festival.

“The Ohio Hills Folk Festival celebrates the history of the Quaker community with exhibits, antique farm tools, steam engines and the historic 1821 Quaker Meeting House,” said Cambridge/Guernsey County Visitors & Convention Bureau Executive Director Debbie Robinson “It is one of the oldest festivals in Ohio and has become a must-attend family tradition for many residents and visitors over the years.”

Activities and shows are planned throughout the entire event for all ages and interests. Kids will especially love Thursday at the festival. The day kicks off with the kids’ bike race starting at
10am. Following the race, families may visit the Festival Kitchen (firehouse) for “Belt Buster Sandwiches,” homemade soups, and desserts. Families are invited to check out the magic show by Eric Myers at 1 and 3pm. Back by popular demand, at 2pm  is the free make-your-own ice cream in a bag for all kids. Don’t forget to bring your frog for the frog-jumping contest at 5:30pm!

Friday’s activities include the crowing of the 2014 Ohio Hills Folk Festival Queen at 6pm immediately followed by the ever-popular Mile Long Parade at 7pm.

Make plans to join the Queen’s Parade Saturday at 4pm. There will also be tractor games and cruise at Walton Field, offering a chance to view 70+ tractors. A fireworks show caps off the festivities Saturday night at 10pm.

Constant entertainment at the craft hall, the flea market, amusement rides and concessions will give everyone a chance to enjoy the festival. Go back to the days when milk was delivered right to your home with a bottle display, which contains over 3,000 milk bottles and the newspaper cow. Stop at the country store on Main Street that serves up homemade ice-cream, fudge, baked items and other delicious treats. Other locally made favorites include local cheese, trail bologna, and Dandy Don’s ham salad.
