Talking Tourism

Event Details & Dates Needed for 2015

Events are a big part of the equation when attracting travelers to Guernsey County. The VCB conducted a search engine marketing campaign earlier this year to help drive additional traffic to its website. No surprise, the top search phrase we discovered “Ohio Events.”

Visitors who come to the area often stay overnight, shop downtown, eat in our local restaurants and fuel up at our gas stations. They make a significant economic impact (typically $100-$300 per person, per visit). Events play a key role in attracting travelers to consider our destination over another location.

The VCB is sending currently seeking event information from our attractions and businesses who market to visitors with an upcoming event in 2015. Our staff helps to share the news about the wonderful and numerous activities, festivals, and exhibits in this region year-round! The bureau publishes a comprehensive list of area events in several forms – such as our annual travel guide, website, quarterly e-newsletter, monthly Talking Tourism columns (like this one!), weekly Facebook posting and through a separate printed 6-months calendar of events brochure.

If you are planning a 2015 event that will attract visitors to our area, and have not contacted or been contact by the VCB staff, you need to do so by August 29.

Those events that qualify are also placed on the state’s travel and tourism website, DiscoverOhio.com and from that, some are chosen by the Tourism Ohio to be listed in their Calendar of Events Magazines. It is important to know that each publication needs detailed information at least three to six months ahead of time. So, don’t delay! Send in those event listings or contact our office to learn more about what is needed.
