Finance Committee approves fire contract

CAMBRIDGE, Ohio -- The Cambridge City Council Finance and Legislative Committees, as well as Council as a whole met in regular session on Monday night in council chambers in City Hall.
The Finance Committee OK'd a contract with the Cambridge firefighters union, I.A.F.F. Local #910, that had been recently approved by the rank and file.  The contact will give Cambridge Firefighters a 1% salary increase, retro-active to July 1st, a 2% increase in 2014 and a 2% increase in 2015, along with a $50.00 increase in clothing allowance.  Service-Safety Director Bob Ley said he was pleased with the contract and remarked that language through-out the document was brought up to date and is now in line with current legal standards.
Finance also approved a request from City Law Director Bill Ferguson to accept and appropriate the 2014 SVAA and VOCA grants for Victims of Crimes in the amounts of $39,000 and $25,000 respectively.  The committee approved the appropriation of an insurance check of $7,500 for the demolition of the "Carpet Guy" building on Steubenville Avenue as well.
The Legislative Committee met and looked over proposals regarding a possible moratorium and an update of the application process for alley vacations within the city from both the City Engineer and the Law Director.  The issue was tabled to allow council time to look over the proposals and to allow Law Director Bill Ferguson time to prepare some sample legislation.  The committee also OK'd a request to vacate an undeveloped alley at 1223 Gomber Avenue.
Council as a Whole Committee then met and discussed a second potential fracking disposal well that has been approved by the ODNR off of Southgate Parkway, along with a discussion regarding a proposed fire contract with Cambridge township that took place in executive session.  These and other matters will come before the next full meeting of Cambridge City Council next Monday night.
