Cambridge Legislative Committee approves alley vacation for church

First Presbyterrian Church to re-build on Steubenville Ave Site

CAMBRIDGE, Ohio -- Both the Legislative and Finance Committees of Cambridge City Council met last night, discussing a number of issues and proposals.
The Legislative Committee met and tabled discussion on a moratorium for alley vacations to allow Law Director Bill Ferguson more time to compile some requested information. The committee then considered and approved a proposed alley vacation for the First Presbyterrian Church at 725 Steubenville Avenue. The alley runs from North Eighth Street to the St. Benedict's School Gymnasium. The Church owns the property on both sides of the alley. First Presbyterrian Building Committee Chair Mike Mitchell informed council the church intends to re-build on the site and an architectural review of the site is in process.
Finance met as well and approved two request from the Cambridge Fire Department, the first to transfer $8,000 from the Fire Health Insurace line item to vehicle maintenance. According to Chief Jeff Deeks, the funds were need for repairs to Engine #5. The committee also appropriated over $2,370 from the Kiwanis Club to purchase four new SCBA tanks for firefighters. The Committee approved a number of requests from City Auditor Suellen Johnson as well, including an appropriation of $10,000 from the General Fund to Legal Fees. According to Service-Safety Director Bob Ley, both union negotiations and some arbitration cases have increased the need for legal advice and consultations for city officials.
