McCONNELLSVILLE, Ohio -- Authorities are expected on Monday to release the identity of a body found burning alongside a Morgan County road last week.
Sheriff Tom Jenkins told media outlets on Friday that, using fingerprints, investigators have tentatively identified the male victim. The man's name is being withheld until his family has been notified.
Reports from the Morgan County Sheriff's Office indicate that utility workers discovered the still-burning corpse at around 9:00am on Thursday near County Road 15 in Union Township. The man's remains were found not far from the roadside in a remote, wooded area.
Morgan County Sheriff's deputies and agents of the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation scoured the area, but as of Saturday morning, found no weapons, vehicles, clothing, or other physical evidence.
Sheriff Jenkins stated that his office treating the investigation as a homicide.
