Authorities have released new information about the local lawyer who suffered a fatal fall from the Southgate Parkway bridge on Monday morning.
Cambridge Police Chief Randy LePage issued a press release on Monday afternoon, stating that attorney Charles McKnight was found beneath the bridge at around 11:00am, dead from an apparent suicide. Cambridge Police detectives estimate that McKnight fell 70 feet after jumping from the bridge's west side.
Officers responded to the scene after several eyewitnesses contacted the Department. Chief LePage said that a pedestrian tried, but was unable, to prevent the jump. He added that investigators found no evidence of foul play.
The Southgate Parkway bridge was closed for approximately an hour as Cambridge Police detectives and the Guernsey County Coroner investigated the scene.
Chief LePage expressed his - and the Department's - sympathies for McKnight's family and friends during this difficult time.
