More than 200 teams have signed up for this year's Gus Macker, which draws thousands of people to Cambridge City Park. Participants and spectators from just about everywhere come to play and enjoy a weekend of tournament basketball. Over the past 12 years, the Gus Macker tournament has raised approximately $130,000 for the Parks Department. Many projects have been accomplished thanks in large part to the proceeds from the Macker.
This year, two more inductees will be taken into the local Gus Macker Hall of Fame. Steve Eyen, who has played in every Macker event in Cambridge and been a great local supporter of the tournament, is one. And Park Foreman Marty Matthews, who goes above and beyond the call of duty every year to prepare the park for the Macker is the other.
