Caldwell, formerly of Byesville
Clifford Dean Thorla, age 94, of Caldwell, formerly of Byesville, died Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Summit Acres Nursing Home in Caldwell. He was born March 16, 1919 at Renrock, a son of the late Forest E. and Stella P.K. Dye Thorla. He was a graduate of Belle Valley High School and a WWII Veteran having served in the United States Navy. Mr. Thorla was a retired employee of Columbia Gas; was an accomplished artist who enjoyed woodworking, painting and sculpting. He was especially proud of a working canon and motor boat that he had built. Along with his late wife he had traveled to all corners of the world, including Africa, Europe , Asia and the United States.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Elaine Woodard Thorla, whom he married February 8, 1940 and who died March 11, 2007; one son, J.D.
No visitation
Graveside funeral services will be held on Monday, April 15, 2013 at 2 PM at Olive Cemetery in Caldwell, with Ken Perkins officiating. Noble County Veteran Service organizations will present military honors.
