Obituaries: Mary Ann (Mills) Mitchell

|Mary Ann (Mills) Mitchell, 86, succumbed to Alzheimer’s disease and passed away at home surrounded by her loving family and care givers on July 9, 2013.
She was born July 23, 1926 in Columbus, Ohio, the oldest child of the late Bruce Mills and the late Kathleen Mills Gormley. Mary Ann began a career as a private duty nurse in 1948 after graduating from the Mount Carmel School of Nursing in Columbus as a member of the final graduating class sponsored by the Army Corps of Nurses. She later worked at both Swan and Guernsey Memorial Hospitals in Cambridge. She began a career in industrial nursing at RCA in 1965 and finished the final 22+ years of her career in 1988 as the Manager of Medical Services and Workers Compensation for NCR Corporation in Cambridge. She was a proud participant in the Harvard Nurses Study from its inception. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Mary Ann married John Edward “Ed” Mitchell on November 15, 1949 in Hollywood, CA, and appeared on the radio show “Bride and Groom” after entering an essay contest to win the trip, wedding, honeymoon and an array of gifts.
Mary Ann will be deeply missed by her husband of over 63 years, her children, Curt Mitchell of Cambridge, Janet (Steve) Warden of Dover, grandson Mitch Warden of Albany, Ohio, brother Philip (Dorothy) Mills of Zanesville, sisters Virginia Fleming, Mahwah, New Jersey and Mercedes (John) Simoncelli, Simi, California and her Aunt, Sister Justine (Rosemary) Lyons, Stella Niagara, New York. Additionally, she will be missed by her sister-in-law and husband, Louise and Bob Mickelson of Coshocton, sister-in-laws Carole Mitchell of Akron and Patricia Mitchell of Cambridge, brother-in-law William Mitchell of Cambridge, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her dear grandson Brock Warden, brothers Charles and Marion Mills and brothers-in-law Raymond and Richard Mitchell.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8PM on Thursday, July 11 at Bundy-Law Funeral Home, Cambridge, with services at 11AM on Friday, July 8. The Rev. Keith Leach will conduct the service with burial following at Northwood Cemetery.
The family wishes to acknowledge with gratitude the assistance provided by all of Mary Ann’s wonderful care givers. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Guernsey County. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.bundy-lawfuneralhome.com.
