Leon V. "Mannie" Jasielum, 93 of Cambridge passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on April 5, 1920 in Shamokin, PA, a son of the late Michael Jasielum and Gertrude (Clifford) Jasielum.
Mr. Jasielum was an Operating Engineer for the Local 18. He proudly served his country in the U.S.Navy for 30 total years. 20 years active duty and 10 years in the Fleet Reserve. He served during W.W.II and Korea. Mannie and three of his brothers were Pearl Harbor Survivors. He was a member of the V.F.W. post #2901 and Masonic Lodge #632. He loved traveling and working.
Mannie is preceded in death by: his parents, Michael and Gertrude Jasielum; his wife Kathleen Jasielum, whom passed away on August 5, 2012; a son and twin of Missie, Jeffrey J. Jasielum; grandson Christopher Luke Jasielum; six sisters, Florence Gick, Mary Troyan, Helen Little, Valerie Frencik, Nancy Kuhlin, and Adeline Koller; and four brothers, Joseph, Frank, Michael and Alvin Jasielum.
He is survived by: son Gary L. (Jenny) Jasielum of Cambridge; daughter Missie (Mitch) Jasielum Basich of Adena; three grandchildren, Jared Jasielum (Heidi), Matthew (Alissa) Jasielum and Joshua (Lynnelle) Flynn; a step- granddaughter Eddena Smith; four great grandchildren, Brooklyn, Lexie, Chloe and Kynzer; and two step-great grandchildren, Christina and Jenna; a brother-in-law Don (Barb) McMillen and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Thursday, October 3, 2013 from 11am to 12pm at Bundy-Law Funeral Home. Private burial will take place in Northwood Cemetery where military graveside rites will be performed by the Guernsey County Veterans Council. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Guernsey / P.O. Box 1165 / Cambridge, Ohio 43725. Leon's online tribute wall may be viewed at www.bundy-lawfuneralhome.com.
