|T. Gordon "Gordie" Smith|
|T. Gordon “Gordie” Smith, 73, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday (Feb. 19, 2014). Born in Cambridge, Ohio, on November 26, 1940, he has had the pleasure of living his entire life in Cambridge. He was the son of the late Leslie M. Smith (6/22/09) and Margaret L. Smith (6/9/99). Gordie has lived in his present home for the last 67 years. He has had Cerebral Palsy since birth and was his parents pride and joy. He was a gentle and very kind person always with a big smile for everyone. He loved to draw with his washable markers and play board games from his gigantic game collection. One of Gordie’s favorite things was going to the Hoppy Days Festivals through all of their 23 years and seeing his wonderful friend, Laura Bates. Gordie enjoyed many family outings and after his mother and fathers passing, continued to go many places and enjoy his life to the best of his ability. Vicki Foraker became a close friend to him and his family and would be there for fun or help, whichever was needed. Gordie was able to enjoy being the 90th Victorian Dickens Character, which was designed special of him by his lifelong buddy, Julie (Selders) Boutwell. His Dickens Character location at Christmas time is directly across from the front of the courthouse, sitting in his wheelchair with a big smile on his face watching the beautiful light show, listening to a song by his name-sake nephew, Gordon Hough, among the music selections. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a stillborn brother; his Uncle, Paul Smith (4/13/95); his Aunt, Viola Smith (10/17/02); and his brother-in-law, Tom Clark (9/19/08).
He was loved and will be dearly missed by his family: two sisters, Beverly “Cookie” Clark of Garfield Hts, and Barbara “Jeannie” Hough of Cambridge and brother-in-law Robert “Bob” Hough of Cambridge; four nephews, Gordon Hough of Cambridge, Tommy Clark of Garfield Hts, Todd Clark of Parma, Ted Clark of Broadview Hts; and one niece, Jennifer (Tim) Reed of Cambridge; four great nieces, Jessi Zaleski at OSU Columbus, Abbey and Alex Clark of West Lake, Julia Clark of Solon; and two great nephews, Ty Reed of Cambridge, and Cpl. Parker (Sydney) Reed of North Carolina; his dear friend, and his angel on earth, Denise Kehl; long time close family friends: Janice, Dorothy, Rosalie, Shirley, Fred, Foss and Fern; and the ones we’ve grown to know who were there for Gordie whenever we needed them: Liz, Rachel, Lisa, Leah, Tessa, Jo and Dawn; and many friends.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Bundy Law Funeral Home, Cambridge. Burial services will be held at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge, immediately following the visitation, with Pastor Max Beery officiating.
A memorial celebrating Gordie’s wonderful life will be held at a later date with the information of the date, time and place to be posted in the Daily Jeffersonian.
Gordie’s family would like to say a special thank you to Hospice of Guernsey for their loving care and compassion. And would like memorial donations be made in Gordie’s name to: Hospice of Guernsey, P.O. Box 1165, Cambridge, Ohio 43725.
