Albany, Oregon formerly of Barnesville
Margaret “Peg” Kirk was born in Barnesville, Ohio, to Amy Gregg Rogers Robinson and Frank Talmadge Robinson on June 3, 1918. She was the oldest of three children. Peg graduated from Western College in Oxford, Ohio in 1940. On August 28, 1941, she married John D Kirk. Her first memory of John was at a picnic when she was 5 and he was 6. They continued to be friends but didn’t discover that they loved each other until after they each returned to Barnesville after college. John and Peg lived in Barnesville for more than 60 years where they raised four daughters. While John managed Kirk’s Furniture Store, Peg, an excellent cook, managed the home. She was active in her community as a member of the Barnesville First United Methodist Church, Mother’s Club, and Twig and particularly enjoyed volunteering weekly as a Grey Lady at Barnesville Hospital. Peg was her daughter Martha’s Brownie and Girl Scout troop leader for 8 years. For the rest of her life she received cards and emails from her scouts and from friends of her deceased daughter Robin.

Peg and John enjoyed traveling with their daughters throughout the United States. They also enjoyed foreign travel and together went to Europe, Northern Africa, Russia, Egypt, Greece, Turkey, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and China. Peg and John truly believed that a parent’s job was to give their children roots and then give them wings and always encouraged their daughters’ travels and adventures.

Peg learned to use a computer when she was 80, and continued to correspond by email with family and friends until her final days. In 2005 after the death of her husband she moved from Ohio to the Mennonite Village in Albany, Oregon, where she made many friends. She continued to face the challenges of aging with both grace and fierce determination.

Mrs. Kirk is survived by her daughters, Malinda (Doug) Moore of Albany, Oregon, Martha (Bob) Zavodsky of Evergreen, Colorado, and Trish (Tim Muench) Kirk of St. Germain, Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Kirk (Nancy Miller) Moore, Andy (Sarah) Lonnquist, Elizabeth (Jeremy Mohr) Zavodsky, Maggie (Andy) Ball, and John Zavodsky: six great grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Marilyn Wright of Abington, PA and Margie Robinson of Barnesville, Ohio, brother-in-law Samuel Ingwersen of Columbus, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Robin Ann Kirk, of Columbus, Ohio; her husband, John D. Kirk; her brother, Tom Robinson, of Barnesville, Ohio; her sister, Frances Robinson Ingwersen, of Columbus, Ohio; and an infant grandson.

Her family wishes to thank the staff of the Mennonite Village, particularly her devoted caregivers from Mennonite In-Home Care, and the Evergreen Hospice personnel who provided such compassionate support to Peg and her family.

Services for Peg will be announced at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio.
