James Eric Kerker, age 42, Amy Lynn Kemp Kerker, age 38 and Lucas James Kerker, age 6, all of Marysville, died Monday, June 30, 2014 in Loveland, Colorado as a result of a tragic airplane accident. The father, mother and son trio were flying on a “great western adventure” for summer vacation.

James was a self-employed engineering sales consultant and was a former associate of Honda Research and Development in Marysville, Ohio. Amy was a dedicated nurse practitioner at Nationwide Children’s Hospital where she served in pediatric surgery for several years.

James and Amy received their greatest gift, Lucas James, on January 9, 2008 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. Lucas, lovingly known as “Lukey James” was a student at Mill Valley Elementary School where he just completed kindergarten. Despite his challenges with ataxia- telangiectasia (A-T), he was lovingly embraced by his fellow students and teachers. He was recently sworn in as a Junior Trooper for the Ohio State Highway Patrol. He enjoyed cars, dinosaurs, trains and potato chips “chippies.” His favorite color was red.
James was a graduate of engineering from the University of Washington. He served in the United States Air Force. He was a licensed private pilot, a professional AMA motorcycle racer, a dirt bike enthusiast and an avid golfer. Above all, he was a devoted husband and “daddy.”

Amy received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Akron University and a master’s degree in nursing from Wheeling Jesuit University. As an advocate for A-T Children’s Project, she selflessly spent time organizing fundraising events in hopes of finding a cure. She was a PTO mom and a homeroom mother at her son’s school. She enjoyed running, reading and spending time with her family. Amy will be most remembered for making sure that each day was “the best day of my son’s life.”

James was born December 28, 1971 in Davenport, Iowa. He is survived by his parents, Ed and Alice Eddy of Bettendorf, Iowa; a brother, Joe (Nicole) Kerker of Kenosha, WI; a sister, Tammy (Dave) Drake of Moline, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
Amy was born November 28, 1975 in Wheeling, West Virginia. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Robert Nucci and Starling and Faye Kemp. She is survived by her parents, Gary W. and Robyn L. Nucci Kemp, of Marysville; a brother, Eric W. (Brittney) Kemp of Barnesville; a sister, Leslie A. (Keith) Lefeld of New Bremen; her grandmother Jean Nucci of Flushing; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
