J. Carter Floyd, 95 of Cambridge, Ohio passed away July 12, 2014 at the Beckett House in New Concord, Ohio. He was born April 21, 1919 in Coshocton, Ohio to the late Ora A. & Edith (Carter) Floyd. He lived in Quaker City until he was 5 years old, when his father died. Then his mother taking her two small children and moved back to live with her parents, Joel & Ida Carter on the farm. Later in his High School days he was doing farm work. He graduated from Quaker City High School in 1936. He worked for Hartley's Hardware in Quaker City for 19 years. He married and moved to Cambridge, Ohio and worked for the Holiday Inn for a few years. Later he was the Guernsey County's maintenance superintendent in charge of the courthouse and eight other buildings and places for 30 years. Besides all this he was dedicated in helping others. He was a 70 year mason and was recently honored of receiving a 70 year pin. He was a member of the Quaker City Methodist Church in Quaker City, Ohio. Some special people in his life were close friends and a neighbor for 22 years, Carolyn Winland, a very dedicated, thoughtful, and caring person, beyond words and especially these last few months of his life. Her grand-daughter Sydney added much joy to his life. Also for many years he has had a very kind, thoughtful and caring friend Nancy Putman of South Carolina. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Louise (Mullis) Floyd of 35 years of marriage and whom passed away on September 5, 1992. He survived by his sister Ruth F. Wood of Barnesville, Ohio, and several cousins, his step-daughter Gloria Blackwood of North Carolina, 2 step- grandchildren Leigh Wingate of South Carolina and Al Wingate of North Carolina. Calling hours will be from 11:00 to 1:00 on Wednesday July 16, 2014 at Bundy-Law Funeral Home with funeral services to follow at 1:00 at the funeral home with Rev. Clayton Coffey officiating. Burial in Friends Cemetery in Quaker City. Memorial contributions can be made to the Quaker City Methodist Church, Heart Association, Hospice of Genesis or a charity of their choice.
