Pennsylvania-based company reported on new drilling data Monday

BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio -- New data shows that Belmont County is now home to the highest producing well in Ohio's Utica Shale.

According to Monday's press release from Rice Energy, its Bigfoot 9H well, located in Smith Township, has an initial production rate of nearly 42 million cubic feet of natural gas per day (41.69 MMcf/d). The gas being collected from the well, which tests at 1,086 Btu, will not require processing before going to market in July.

With Monday's announcement, Rice Energy has nudged aside Antero Resources in the race to drill the most productive well in Ohio's Utica Shale. The previous top well was Antero's Yountz well in Monroe County, Ohio, with around 38.9 MMcf/d on initial production.

Rice Energy, which controls 46,000 acres of mineral rights in the Utica Shale, is based out of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania.
