Ohioan Takes Senior Amateur

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) - Qualifying medalist Alan Fadel beat Stephen Fox 1 up yesterday in the first round of the U.S. Senior Amateur in Newport Beach, California. The 59-year-old Fadel, a financial adviser from Toledo, Ohio, won on the par-5 18th at Big Canyon after Fox, from Huntington, West Virginia, tied it on the par-4 17th.

Browns Win Home Opener

CLEVELAND (AP) - The Cleveland Browns beat the New Orleans Saints 26-24 yesterday. Billy Cundiff kicked a 29-yard field goal with three seconds left. Cundiff's kick helped the Browns snap a nine-game losing streak in home openers and gave rookie coach Mike Pettine his first NFL win.
