Associated Press

The Associated Press is the essential global news network, delivering accurate, insightful news from every corner of the world, 24 hours a day. Since its founding in 1846, AP has been the first to report many of history’s most important moments, and every day, AP journalists, photographers and videographers file news from the front lines of the world's biggest stories.

AP’s reporting, photography, audio and video are published and broadcast by the world’s leading newspapers, TV channels, apps, radio stations, websites and magazines—in fact, over half the world’s population sees AP news content on any given day.

As a leader in the field of journalism, AP fights for freedom of the press and the public’s right to know. Its reporters take great risks to file in-depth stories from countries where the press is otherwise restrained, and in the U.S., AP aggressively uses the Freedom of Information Act to advocate for transparency and accountability in government.

With more experience reporting and delivering news than any other agency, a well-earned reputation for independence and accuracy, and a fierce commitment to the people’s right to know, AP is the definitive source for trusted news.

Cavs Considered Championship Contenders

CLEVELAND (AP) - When the NBA postseason opens this weekend, there will be plenty of championship contenders but perhaps no clear favorite.
The Golden State Warriors were the NBA's best team this season. LeBron James has been on top before, though never in Cleveland.
With LeBron James gone from Miami, so are the days of penciling in one half of the NBA Finals matchup. The Heat reached the last four finals, winning two of them, before James returned to Cleveland last July.
The Cavaliers don't even have the best record in the Eastern Conference, finishing in second place behind Atlanta. But they have rolled through the second half of the season so easily that it's hard not to consider this No. 2 as the one.
The Cavs start Sunday against Boston, a familiar foe for James and the one that ended his last postseason in a Cavaliers uniform.

Curbing HGH in NBA

NEW YORK (AP) - NBA players will be blood tested for human growth hormone beginning next season. The league and the Players Association have that HGH testing will start during training camp next fall. All players will be subjected to three random, unannounced tests annually - two during the season and once in the offseason.
A positive test will result in a 20-game suspension for a first violation and a 45-game ban for a second violation. A player would be dismissed and disqualified from the NBA for his third violation.

Penguins Lose Game One

UNDATED (AP) - The road team has done quite well through two days of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Thursday's victories by Minnesota and Detroit gave the visitors a 5-3 record.
However, the New York Rangers held serve at Madison Square Garden as first-period goals by Derick Brassard and Ryan McDonagh were enough offense in a 2-1 triumph over Pittsburgh. Brassard put the Blueshirts ahead to stay 28 seconds after the opening faceoff before McDonagh scored on a power play.
Henrik Lundqvist made the early goals hold up, finishing with 24 saves and blanking the Penguins after Blake Comeau's (KOH'-mohz) goal early in the second period.
Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 36 shots for the Penguins, who stay in New York for Game 2 on Saturday.
