Ohio drug take-back yields 14 tons of pills

Written by

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The Ohio Attorney General's Office says state residents disposed of more than 14 tons of unwanted prescription medications during the national drug take-back day last weekend.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration's Drug Take-Back Initiative last Saturday provided residents with a safe, convenient, anonymous way to dispose of pills and other medications.

Ohioans tuned in 14.2 tons — or 28,466 pounds — of unwanted drugs at various locations throughout the state.

Seven previous nationwide take-back events have removed a total of more than 3.4 million pounds of medication from circulation.

In urging people to turn in their medications, officials noted that a recent survey found four-in-10 teens who have misused or abused a prescription drug got it from their parents' medicine cabinet.
