Ohio food banks hope app can increase donations

Written by

CINCINNATI (AP) - The Ohio Association of Foodbanks is supporting a mobile app that some Miami University students developed as a way to help people donate to food banks.

The association invested $5,000 in the free app rolled out recently to the public for android use by NomNom Nation LLC. The suburban Cincinnati-based company hopes to offer an IOS version by June 1.

One association member is testing the app among some southwest Ohio donors through May. The hope is to eventually expand its use statewide. The Fairfield-based Shared Harvest Foodbank has been notifying supporters in the Oxford area about the app. Shared Harvest says first-day use of the app last week produced enough donations for 200 meals.

The company's CEO says the plan is to later offer the app nationally.
