Heroin had role in quadruple Ohio slaying

Written by

AKRON, Ohio (AP) - A prosecutor in northeast Ohio says a quadruple homicide last year had its roots in the state's growing heroin epidemic.

Prosecutor Brian LoPrinzi told a jury in Akron Tuesday that one of the victims in the slayings had made a lot of money dealing heroin. He said the victims were killed in an Akron townhome during a robbery.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports that LoPrinzi talked about the growing problem of heroin addiction in the region during his opening statement in the capital murder trial of the first of the suspects, 22-year-old Derrick "Buck" Brantley.

All the victims were shot once in the head on April 18, 2013.

At the time of the slayings, Brantley was free on bond awaiting trial on charges of heroin trafficking.
