Court: Threat records on Ohio governor not public

Written by

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The Ohio Supreme Court says the state acted legally in rejecting a request from a political blogger to hand over records that document threats against Republican Gov. John Kasich.

In an unsigned opinion issued Wednesday, the high court rejected the Democratic-leaning blog Plunderbund's definition of "security records" in seeking the documents. The state said Ohio public-records law clearly allows threats to be shielded from public view for Kasich's protection, while the blog said that definition was too broad.

Plunderbund sought investigation files on any threats to Kasich or his staff. Shortly before, Kasich's office cited a large number of threats against the governor in declining to release daily schedules to the state Democratic Party. The blog wanted to learn the nature of the threats.
