WKRC in Cincinnati reports that Sen. Rob Portman's office put out a statement on Friday in response to reports that Portman is putting together a presidential exploratory committee. The statement says that Portman is focused primarily on serving the citizens of Ohio, gaining a GOP majority in the Senate and running for re-election in 2016.
The Ohio Republican was on Mitt Romney's short list of potential running mates in 2012. His name was among a short list of potential presidential contenders in 2016 that includes New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas and even Ohio Gov. John Kasich.
