Associated Press

The Associated Press is the essential global news network, delivering accurate, insightful news from every corner of the world, 24 hours a day. Since its founding in 1846, AP has been the first to report many of history’s most important moments, and every day, AP journalists, photographers and videographers file news from the front lines of the world's biggest stories.

AP’s reporting, photography, audio and video are published and broadcast by the world’s leading newspapers, TV channels, apps, radio stations, websites and magazines—in fact, over half the world’s population sees AP news content on any given day.

As a leader in the field of journalism, AP fights for freedom of the press and the public’s right to know. Its reporters take great risks to file in-depth stories from countries where the press is otherwise restrained, and in the U.S., AP aggressively uses the Freedom of Information Act to advocate for transparency and accountability in government.

With more experience reporting and delivering news than any other agency, a well-earned reputation for independence and accuracy, and a fierce commitment to the people’s right to know, AP is the definitive source for trusted news.

Lots of new Buckeyes on display in scrimmage

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Several of the early preseason publications and websites predict Ohio State should have one of the top 10 or 15 teams in the country.

If the Buckeyes live up to that hype, it'll likely be because of a lot of players who are unknown to even the most rabid fans.

They include receiver Johnnie Dixon, linebacker Raekwon McMillan, H-back Curtis Samuel, offensive lineman Marcelys Jones, kicker Sean Nuernberger and quarterbacks Cardale Jones, J.T. Barrett and Stephen Collier.

There are even new faces coaching the new faces: defensive assistants Chris Ash and Larry Johnson.

In Saturday's annual intrasquad scrimmage, many of the key players to keep an eye on are the ones who are the least familiar.

Mumps Case Grows

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Health officials tracking a mumps outbreak in central Ohio say there are now 175 confirmed cases, with 111 linked to Ohio State University.

Local health agencies in the area say that those infected by the viral illness range in age from 9 months to 70 years. They include 86 Ohio State students and 10 staff members.

The cases span from early January through Monday.

State and local health officials are urging residents to make sure they are properly vaccinated with two doses of measles-mumps-rubella, known as MMR.

Mumps often starts with fever, fatigue and body aches. Those infected are urged to stay home for a few days, cover their mouths and noses when coughing or sneezing, and frequently wash their hands.

House Debates Budget

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - State representatives of both parties have criticized Ohio Gov. John Kasich for saddling them with a midterm budget bill loaded with proposals they called unsuited for a non-budget year.

One fellow Republican said Kasich's practice of proposing voluminous off-year budgets was putting the governor in control of Ohio's legislative branch of government.

Rep. Terry Boose's remarks came Wednesday before the House voted 57-33 to pass the measure.

Democrats railed particularly against a last-minute amendment to one of nine bills derived from Kasich's 1,600-page "midbiennium review" that were up for votes Wednesday. The revision changed campaign finance law to lift a disclosure requirement applied to independent political expenditures and loosen political-giving restrictions on state contractors.

Other bills up to for votes addressed education, job training, veterans and workers' compensation.
