Belmont County authorities continue to investigate Monday incident

BELLAIRE, Ohio -- Authorities in Belmont County say new evidence and information are being gathered in connection with a Monday-afternoon drive-by shooting.
Bellaire Police Chief Mike Kovalyk said on Thursday that officers located the vehicle involved in Monday's shooting. Kovalyk said the SUV, which is a rental vehicle, has provided clues to the assailants' identities. He says police are now looking at individuals who are linked indirectly to the person who rented the car.
Kovalyk believes drugs were involved in the incident and says the surveillance video from a nearby business has also unveiled important information.
No one was injured when shots were fired in Bellaire, near the intersection of Harrison Street and 43rd Street, on Monday afternoon. Witnesses at the scene said that four shots were fired from a vehicle, and that as many as three people may have been involved.
An investigation continues.
