Sen. Gentile goes to bat for Ormet Corp.

Lawmaker spoke with Gov. Kasich about embattled Monroe County facility

MONROE COUNTY, Ohio -- Another state lawmaker says he has gone to bat for an embattled Monroe County aluminum producer.
State Sen. Lou Gentile told media outlets on Monday that he has spoken to Gov. John Kasich directly, asking him to step up and save the jobs of nearly 1,000 laid-off workers of the Ormet Corp. Gentile added that he would like Governor Kasich to understand the impact of losing these jobs here in the Ohio Valley and send a clear message to the steelworkers that he wants to save these jobs.
The facility closed last month after the PUCO denied Ormet's call for a rate reduction in electricity costs. Just a week ago, Ormet launched its biggest campaign to date, calling it the "Save Ohio Jobs" campaign. The United Steelworkers are hoping to convince Ohio's top lawmakers to stand up and fight for the many southeastern Ohioans affected by the closure.
