A Kimbolton man charged in connection with a crash that killed one teenager and injured another has been indicted in Guernsey County.
According to Prosecutor Daniel G. Padden, 29-year-old Thomas D. Nugent was among seven indicted by the Grand Jury of the Guernsey County Common Pleas Court on Tuesday. Reports indicate two teenagers were seriously injured just after midnight on April 13 when Nugent struck a riding lawn mower being towed by a four-wheeler on Old 21 Road. One juvenile, 14-year-old Brandon Pethtel, died later that day as a result of his injuries. Nugent allegedly fled the scene of the accident, but was arrested the next day, thanks to a tip from a concerned citizen. Nugent's damaged vehicle was located in a barn not far from where the crash occurred, near the intersection of Old 21 Road and State Route 541. Nugent now faces charges that include aggravated vehicular homicide (F3), vehicular assault (F4), tampering with evidence (F3), and failure to stop after an accident (F3).
A Byesville couple, charged in connection with the manufacture of methamphetamine in Guernsey County, was also indicted earlier this week. 45-year-old Bruce A. Miller and 41-year-old Samantha Miller have now been charged with illegal assembly or possession of chemicals for manufacturing drugs (F3), and possessing criminal tools (F5). Reports indicate that both the Guernsey County Sheriff's Office and the Byesville Police Department executed a search warrant at the Miller's South 5th Street residence in Byesville, reportedly locating a meth lab on May 6. The Washington County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Task Force were called in to neutralize the hazardous materials created by the alleged operation. Samantha Miller was arrested at the scene. Bruce Miller remains at-large.
Additional charges were leveled against a Byesville man charged with rape in April. Reports indicate 26-year-old Michael Scott Savage II now faces six counts of rape (F1), five counts of gross sexual imposition (F3) and gross sexual imposition (F4). An investigation began after a juvenile female came to Guernsey County Sheriff's Detectives and claimed she had been sexually assaulted by the suspect over a period of six years. Detectives say the reported incidents took place at various locations around the county, starting in November 2002, when the alleged victim was just 6 years old. An investigation continues, as detectives believe that others may have been victimized by Savage.
Also indicted by the Grand Jury on Tuesday: 42-year-old Steven A. Harris of Cambridge has been charged with felonious assault (F2), intimidation of victim (M1), and intimidation of a witness (F3); 43-year-old Steven A. Lenarz of Pleasant City faces charges of receiving stolen property (F4) and grand theft (F4); and 26-year-old Michael S. Savage II of Byesville has been charged with six counts of rape (F1), five counts of gross sexual imposition (F3) and gross sexual imposition (F4).
All those indicted earlier this week, will appear in the Guernsey County Common Pleas Court for arraignment on June 13.
