Guernsey County Drug Drop-Off

Written by

Residents may dispose of drugs anonymously and without penalty
CAMBRIDGE, Oh. -- In an effort to rid the community of unwanted or expired prescription drugs, the Guernsey County Sheriff's Office, along with Drug Enforcement Agency, is conducting a drug drop off this Saturday, April 26.
The 7th event of its kind locally is scheduled to be held from 10 A.M. until 2 P.M. at Riesbeck's Market on South 23rd Street and East Wheeling Avenue in Cambridge.
Residents may bring their unwanted, unused or expired prescription medications for free disposal by sheriff's deputies and the DEA.
The drop off and disposal is free and anonymous.
Last year, Americans turned in 244 tons of prescription drugs at over 5,200 sites.
Sheriff's Captain Jeff Paden said the rate of prescription drug abuse is alarmingly high, as is the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses.
Officials said older disposal methods such as throwing drugs in the trash or flushing them down the toilet--both pose potential safety and health risks.
