CAMBRIDGE, Ohio -- A Franklin County man ended up in the Guernsey County Jail following an undercover sting operation executed by Guernsey County Sheriff's Deputies on Monday afternoon.
The man was allegedly spotted in a number of locations in several different counties in East Central Ohio attempting to acquire scrap and ferrous metals, legally or illegally, for profit. A controlled transaction was set up by Guernsey County Sheriff's Deputies, with Deputy Chad Kerns, the Sheriff's Scrapyard Inspector, posing as a scrap seller. The suspect reportedly purchased a load of illegal scrap from Kerns and was arrested following the completion of the transaction. Deputy Kerns stated that there are now numerous new laws in effect in Ohio regarding the sale of scrap metals:
The suspect from Frankin County remains in the Guernsey County Jail. Charges are pending.
