BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio -- The votes have been tallied, and preliminary primary election results released in counties throughout our listening area.
Democratic voters in Belmont County chose Anthony Donofrio over David Lee Engler as their candidate for judge to the Ohio Court of Appeals. Donofrio will face Republican Carol Ann Robb in November.
Levies for both the Union Local School District and Bellaire School District were voted down by a wide margin, while a 3.5-mill fire replacement levy in the village of Bethesda was passed.
Local voters also weighed in on a number of state primaries and issues. Guernsey, Noble and Belmont County voters overwhelmingly voiced their support for Jennifer Garrison over Gregory Howard in the Democratic Primary for U.S. Representative to Congress for the Sixth District. Garrison will take on Republican incumbent Bill Johnson in the fall. And Democratic gubernatorial candidate Ed Fitzgerald defeated Larry Ealy, and will face against incumbent GOP Gov. John Kasich in November.
State Issue 1, a proposed constitutional amendment to fund public infrastructure capital improvements with general obligation bonds, was passed by Guernsey, Noble and Belmont County voters.
