HANNIBAL, Ohio -- Dozens of parents and students packed the Switzerland of Ohio Board of Education meeting earlier this week.
More than 75 people, spurred by rumors that Beallsville High School might face closure, attended the meeting at River High School, overwhelmingly speaking against the possible closure. Board members listened as some accused the board of breaking promises made before voters approved a desperately-needed school levy for the district. Still others accused the board of favoring Monroe Central High School at the expense of Beallsville High.
One Beallsville alumna said that, amidst news of soaring gas production in Monroe County, the board should "give the schools a chance and keep them open." She received a standing ovation when she suggested that the district should " close the central office and start afresh."
Switzerland of Ohio Superintendent John Hall said that no redistricting action has come concerning schools in the district.
