Embattled Belmont County business tries for renewed liquor license

Fred's Party Centers appeared before Liquor Control Board on Tuesday

ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio -- The owner of a Belmont County business wants his liquor license renewed - even after his stores were busted for selling synthetic marijuana last year.

Fred's Party Centers were raided in April 2013 as a result of selling synthetic marijuana. On Tuesday, Fred Fryman, the owner of Fred's Party Centers in Martins Ferry and Bridgeport, went before a hearing officer for the Division of Liquor Control asking to get his liquor license renewed. City officials feel differently about the renewal, saying that the Party Center was declared a public nuisance and that the liquor license should not be renewed.

A decision was not made at Tuesday's hearing. The representative, on behalf of the Liquor Control Division, will take the case under advisement and then suggest what he feels is a proper ruling to Liquor Control Superintendent, Bruce Stevenson. A final ruling will be filed in the weeks to come.
