MONROE COUNTY, Ohio -- A Powhatan woman has been arrested and charged with theft after a lengthy investigation involving local and federal authorities.
According to Det. Ryan Allar of the Belmont County Sheriff's Office, deputies, FBI agents, and officers of the Belmont County Drug Task Force on Thursday served an arrest warrant on Deborah Brown. Brown was taken into custody and arrested for theft in what Sheriff Dave Lucas said involved a significant amount of money, stemming from Powhatan Construction, a company formerly owned by her husband, Marvin Brown.
Marvin Brown was murdered earlier this year, and his death remains under investigation.
Sheriff Lucas said the arrest was part of a lengthy financial investigation. He would not say if the arrest is connected to Brown's murder, but stated that the "case is a top priority."
