CAMBRIDGE, Ohio -- A life-long Guernsey County public servant has passed away.
Former Guernsey County Commissioner Steve Allen succumbed after a long-time battle with cancer early Tuesday morning. Allen passed away at the age of 53 at the James Cancer Center in Columbus. He is survived by his wife Kim, his son Justin, daughters Erin, Rosalie, and Rochelle, and by his parents, Roy and Mildred Allen.
Commissioner Tom Laughman worked for 12 years with Allen as commissioner, and said that Allen's legacy is still visible in his community:

Allen served as commissioner for 12 years. In 2012, he took over as executive director of the Guernsey County Community Development Center. Steve and Kim Allen also served the children of Guernsey County as foster parents for 10 years. Allen and his family attended the Lore City United Methodist Church.
A benefit for the Allen family will be held on Saturday from 4:00-9:00 p.m. at the Airport Tavern in Lore City. All proceeds will go towards medical and final expenses.
