Home Rescued from Muskingum Co. Sinkhole

Officials report numerous sinkholes South of Zanesville
Officials in Muskingum County continue to deal with unstable ground and sinkhole development near the village of White Cottage.
Back in March and April, local officials and the ODNR issued public warnings about possible sinkholes near an abandoned limestone mine.
Since then, according to reports, nearly a dozen sink holes have been identified, some measuring more than 500 square feet in size.
On Friday, a landowner was able to pull his mobile home, abandoned back in April,  from the edge of one sinkhole, before it was swallowed up by the developing crater.
The sinkholes reportedly are due to the poor mining practices of Columbia Portland Cement Co, which was mining a 14 million square foot area of land for limestone in the White Cottage area, south of Zanesville.   The company went bankrupt and closed in 1981.
