Craig Peacock not responsible for the beating death of WJU student

WHEELING, W.Va. – The verdict is in for a Florida man charged in connection with the murder of a Wheeling Jesuit University student last year.

Jurors took less than an hour to find 22-year-old Craig Tyler Peacock not guilty in the case of the beating death of WJU student Kevin Figaniak. The jury announced their verdict around 1:50 p.m. on Friday in an Ohio County, West Virginia courtroom.

The jury had to choose between one of the following options: guilty of murder in the first degree, guilty of murder in the second degree, guilty of voluntary manslaughter, guilty of involuntary manslaughter or not guilty.

After the verdict was read, Peacock stood and embraced his father, after which Judge James Mazzone discharged Peacock, making him a free man. Peacock told reporters he would move back to his native Florida and look for work.
