CAMBRIDGE, Ohio -- A Miami, Fla. man involved in a semi roll-over crash near Cambridge on Thursday morning has succumbed to his injuries.
According to the Cambridge Post of the State Highway Patrol, 47-year-old Ubaldo Acosta-Gomez died at the OSU Medical Center at around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Lt. James Tracy, Commander of the Cambridge Post, told AVC News at the scene on Thursday that the semi was likely going too fast when it exited Interstate 77 northbound at around 9:45 a.m. and tipped over on the off-ramp for U.S. Route 40. The cab of the semi was impaled on the guardrail posts, trapping the driver inside. Crews from the Cambridge Fire Department had to extricate the man from truck by mechanical means.
Acosta-Gomez was said to be seriously injured when he was transported by medical helicopter to Wexner Medical Center at OSU in Columbus. An initial report did not specify which of the victim's injuries proved fatal.
