According to Trooper Scott Bayless, he spotted a late-model Cadillac, eastbound on I-70, following another vehicle too closely just before 1:00 p.m. Bayless attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the driver of the Cadillac, which was reportedly stolen, sped off in an attempt to elude the trooper. The fugitive then pulled off to the side of the road a short distance later, just west of the Champion exit, and attempted to flee on foot. Trooper Bayless then released his K-9 Alex, who tracked the suspect into a wooded area.
The dog located the man and he was taken into custody by troopers without incident.
The suspect remains in custody in the Guernsey County Jail. Charges, including those regarding the vehicle reportedly stolen in Perry County, are pending.
