BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio -- The superintendent of the Union Local School District, arrested and charged last week for crimes involving child pornography, has posted bond.
Douglas Thoburn posted $60,000 bond, waived his right to a preliminary hearing and will now wait to hear from the grand jury on whether or not his case will go to trial. He is charged with four counts of pandering obscenity involving a minor.
Thoburn was arrested last Thursday evening after authorities executed a search warrant at his home in Belmont. Belmont County Sheriff Dave Lucas said authorities began their investigation of the school administrator after deputies received a complaint regarding criminal misconduct.
The Belmont County Department of Job and Family Services, as well as the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation assisted in the inquiry.
Thoburn has been place on paid administrative leave by the district. The suspect is a former Cambridge resident, who served for a short time as Principal of Cambridge Middle School.
