BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio -- The embattled superintendent of the Union Local Schools, charged last month for possession of child pornography, is no longer on the district's payroll.
An attorney for the Union Local School District said that Superintendent Doug Thoburn has been placed on "unrequested administrative leave without pay" by the board of education. Though Thoburn posted $60,000 bail two weeks ago, a condition of his bond is that he is forbidden to be on school premises or have contact with minors.
Thoburn was arrested on July 24 after authorities executed a search warrant at his home in Belmont. Belmont County Sheriff Dave Lucas said authorities began their investigation of the school administrator after deputies received a complaint regarding criminal misconduct.
Thoburn is charged with four felony counts of pandering obscenity involving a minor. If convicted, he faces up to 32 year in prison and automatic revocation of his education license.
The suspect is a former Cambridge resident, who served for a short time as Principal of Cambridge Middle School.
