Crews continue search for teenager lost in Tuscarawas River

Newcomerstown PD: 17-year-old went under on Sunday afternoon, not seen since

NEWCOMERSTOWN, Ohio -- The search continues for a teenager who disappeared while swimming in the Tuscarawas River on Sunday afternoon.
 
Reports from the Newcomerstown Police Department indicate that the 17-year-old male was swimming with friends at around 5:00 p.m. on Sunday when he sunk beneath the water's surface and disappeared. Emergency crews from Coshocton County, Newcomerstown, West Lafayette, Gnaddenhutten - as well as the New Philadelphia Fire Department Dive Team - immediately began a search for the missing teen in the area. The teen had not been found by the time the search was called off at nightfall Sunday evening and resumed Monday morning.
 
Chief Gary Holland said that his department is withholding the teenager's identity, for the time being.
