Swift currents, rising waters make search efforts unsafe

NEWCOMERSTOWN, Ohio -- Search and rescue crews from Tuscarawas County were forced to suspend their efforts to find a missing teen for a second day on Tuesday.

Newcomerstown Police Chief Gary Holland said that swift currents and rising waters created unsafe conditions for search teams looking for the missing 17-year old male from Newcomerstown on Tuesday. Rescuers will wait for more favorable conditions in order to resume the search.

Adverse weather conditions forced authorities to suspend their search early Monday evening for the teenager who disappeared while swimming in the Tuscarawas River on Sunday afternoon.

The police department is withholding the teenager's identity, for the time being.
