According to the State Highway Patrol, four crashes occurred westbound, one near Quaker City and the three others near Old Washington between 6 to 6:30 p.m. Troopers are saying a combination of a heavy downpour and driver inattention caused the crashes, which resulted in only one serious injury.
Reports say a pick-up truck struck a semi near the Quaker City exit, ejecting one passenger from the pick-up truck. The victim, whose condition was not immediately released, suffered serious injuries.
A short distance westbound, two commercial trucks and a pick-up hit each other near the Old Washington exit. No injuries were reported in that crash.
Three commercial trucks rear-ended each other just west of that accident. Again, no injuries were reported.
Two semis then collided just after passing that crash. A small diesel fuel resulted from that accident. No serious injuries were reported.
The accidents caused numerous delays westbound, with traffic backed-up to the Barnesville exit, at one point. The State Highway Patrol continues to investigate all the incidents. Charges are pending.
