Preparing for the upcoming school year, the board last night addressed a lengthy list of personnel items, which included five new teachers. The list includes: Tiffany Capers (7th grade language arts), Kristen Epperson (guidance counselor/school social worker-grades K-8, and substitute teacher coordinator), Carleen Latchic (family & consumer sciences), Carrie Weis (8th grade math) and Zane Zehnder (MHS science). In addition, Molly Kaplet was approved as assistant principal at the high school. Also the board accepted the resignation of Rachel Byrne-Dorff effective Aug. 1, 2013.
The board last night voted to fund the supplemental positions of the MHS Band Director, Flag Corps Director and Brook Singers, for 20 additional days of extended service. The funding had, until recently, been supplied by the boosters organization. However, group has found paying for the positions to have become more difficult due to dwindling revenues.
At the request of Athletic Director Jeff Wheeler, the board also approved some changes to the facility usage policy, as well as the Sunday practice/open gym policy.
The new ruling allows interactions between student athletes and coaches on Sundays between 1 and 6 pm, but only with permission from the A.D. Players must be given 1 complete day off each week. Also approved was a restructuring of the district's facility usage forms and procedure governing practices and open gyms.
