Family-Friendly Autumn Activities Abound in Guernsey County

CAMBRIDGE, OHIO (Sep. 8, 2015) – Experience Southeast Ohio’s brilliant autumn colors and family-friendly activities in Cambridge/Guernsey County.

Don’t miss out on the last of the performances of the season at Living Word Outdoor Drama this month. This nationally recognized drama brings to life the passion of Jesus Christ on a 400 foot outdoor set. Experience the drama like never before with updated lighting and a recently installed sound system to bring the passion to life. Each remaining performance begins at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays with all new “Behind the Scenes Tour beginning at 6:30 p.m. Season ends Sept. 26.

The Guernsey Gospel Jubilee Association sponsors their 28th Annual Fall Gospel Sing on the weekends of September 18, 19, 25, and 26 at the Spring Valley Campground. Bring your lawn chair and sit under the big tent as you enjoy many well-known gospel groups.

Taking place on Sept. 26 and benefiting the Lore City Volunteer Fire Department is the Lore City Fire Department Annual Car and Truck Show. This event is a judged show with prizes, music, food, a Chinese auction and stellar automobiles. Registration is between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. with trophies awarded at 3 p.m.

The month of October kicks-off with Cambridge Main Street hosting the Fall Festival October 2 and 3 in historic downtown Cambridge. Celebrate the fall season with family-favorite traditions including scarecrow building and make & take crafts. Additional activities include craft vendors, 5K run-walk, new car show, food and refreshments, great performers, live music on Friday and Saturday evening and Deerassic’s Kid’s Korner featuring activities just for children including pumpkin decorating, an apple cider press and games.

When you want great old-fashioned fun and family entertainment, look no further than the Official Paul Bunyan Show, one of the nation’s largest and oldest forestry shows. This year the event will be held on October 2-4 at the Guernsey County Fairgrounds, showcasing more than 130 exhibits featuring all different facets of North American forestry. Lumberjack entertainment and competitions will take place throughout the weekend along with displays of lumberjacking equipment, manpower, and dedication. Numerous educational sessions on topics ranging from logging equipment safety and maintenance to the history and restoration of the bald eagle in Ohio will be offered.

Take the whole family and step back in time to meet nobility, period vendors, Vikings and more at the Cambridge Medieval Market Faire October 9-11 at Cambridge City Park. The faire takes place 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.

National Road & Zane Grey Museum is the site for the Fall Festival Day on October 10. Join us at the museum as we decorate pumpkins, build scarecrows (bring your own "scarecrow" clothing) and make Halloween slime. Lunch will be a wiener roast with hot dogs, s'mores and cider.

Get in the Halloween spirit at Deerassic Park Education Center’s Petrified Forest October 17, and 24. This outdoor haunted trail is geared for ages 13 and over with a $5 admission. A hayride will transport “victims” to the trail head as they walk/hike back on a dimly lit wooded trail.

Wrapping up October is the Trail of Treats on October 24. Deerassic Park Education Center holds this annual event, a night of trick-or-treating supported by local businesses passing out goodies to the little ones.
