COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Residents near a large commercial warehouse in south Columbus that caught fire and sent thick black smoke billowing into the air have been asked to stay inside, shut their windows and doors and avoid breathing in the smoke.
The smoke is not believed to be toxic, however, and no injuries have been reported.
About 100 people were working at Columbus Pallet Recycling when the fire started Friday afternoon.
Firefighters responded shortly after 4 p.m. and were still fighting the blaze hours later.
Some roads have been closed in the area, and thousands of nearby residents were without power.
The fire produced a large black mushroom cloud visible from downtown Columbus and spreading miles to the southeast.
Officials say one-third to one-half of the city's firefighters is battling the blaze.

OXFORD, Ohio (AP) - The president of Miami University says he will retire in 2016 after 10 years leading the school in southwest Ohio.
David Hodge announced his plans Friday at a university board of trustees meeting. He says he will retire June 30, 2016, after more than four decades in higher education. He came from the University of Washington in 2006 to become Miami's 21st president.
He says he is announcing his plans now to allow plenty of time for a national search for his successor.
The public university based in Oxford has some 24,000 students, including graduate students and its regional campuses.
